Kuiper has an official astronaut portrait now, just like his hero @lelandmelvin! We received this incredible art in the mail today from our @redditgifts Secret Santa in the Space 2018 exchange. Now I feel really lazy for sending my match a package from Amazon. ?
I had asked my Santa to tell me what inspires them about space. They sent me a lovely two-page handwritten letter. Here’s what they said:
“I could go on, and on, and on… so I’ll just say this: aside from being captivated by the frontiers we have yet to explore and discover, our entire future is out there, and the fact that we have NASA and SpaceX pushing all the boundaries is a promising start and a promise that has so many countless people, myself included, excited about what’s to come.
It’s always been my dream to go into space, but the chances of that happening are slim to none. I’m no genius; the thought of the math needed to operate even the computers scares me (I can barely do algebra, but whatever.) But with each new launch the world gets just a little bit closer to that dream becoming reality for someone else. Who knows, maybe one day my great-great-great grandkids will be shuttle pilots, or astrobiologists, or even Lunar or Martian colonists! The possibilities are literally endless, and that’s what I love about space.”
